Let’s talk about painting the seasons, and finding inspiration in nature.
I find quite often what sparks interest and ideas for a painting is not the big drawer full of sketchbooks I’ve filled, or the millions of photographs on my phone of lovely landscapes and sunsets and so on. Instead, it tends to be what catches my eye when I’m out and wandering around the lanes and beaches here in Devon.
Things that catch my eye are usually beautiful zingy contrasting colours, or shapes and textures of bark and stones and plants.
Autumn is not my favourite season I’ll be honest. I’m a Spring sort of person and I love seeing those first green-gold leaves emerging but it’s impossible not to be moved by the cascades of red, rusty orange and yellow leaves and the beautiful low sunlight filtering through the trees that you only seem to get in Autumn.
So what will I be doing this weekend?
Pulling on my boots and going for a stomp around the hills and valleys to see what catches my eye. And coming home with my pockets full of leaves, seeds, acorns and conkers, as usual.
Happy hunting.
